What Is The Main Function Of The Clutch

Jun 09, 2022

The main function of the automobile clutch is to gradually engage the engine and the transmission, so as to ensure the smooth start of the car; temporarily cut off the connection between the engine and the transmission to facilitate shifting and reduce the impact of shifting; It can play the role of separation and prevent the transmission and other transmission systems from being overloaded, thus playing a certain protective role.

The clutch is composed of four parts: the active part, the driven part, the pressing mechanism and the operating mechanism.

1. Active part. The active part includes the flywheel, clutch cover, pressure plate and other parts. This part is attached to the engine crankshaft. The clutch cover and the flywheel are connected by bolts, and the torque is transmitted between the pressure plate and the clutch cover by 3-4 transmission plates.

2. The driven part. The driven part is composed of a single, double or multiple driven disc, which transmits the power from the driving part to the input shaft of the transmission through friction. The driven disc is composed of three basic parts: the driven disc body, the friction plate and the driven disc hub. In order to avoid resonance in the rotational direction and alleviate the shock load on the drive train, most cars have a torsional damper attached to the driven disc of the clutch.

3. Pressing mechanism. The compression mechanism is mainly composed of a coil spring or a diaphragm spring, which rotates with the active part. It relies on the clutch cover to press the pressure plate to the flywheel, thereby compressing the driven plate between the flywheel and the plate. Coil springs are divided into two types: arranged in the circumferential direction and arranged in the center. A clutch with a cylindrical or conical spring arranged in the center is called a central spring clutch.

4, the control mechanism. The clutch operating mechanism begins with the clutch pedal in the cab and ends with the release bearing in the clutch. What it does is turn the human power on the pedals into thrust that pushes the separation sleeve. It can be divided into mechanical type, hydraulic type, power-assisted type, servo type
